BIO Page: A little bit about me!

 Hello!

Hanah here!

I'm a BioScience major at Phoenix College. I was primarily going for nursing, but I had a change of heart after working a while as a Lab tech assistant at PC's biology department. I felt a strong pull of interest towards the biochem/tech universe after having exposure to a biology lab setting as a student, and realizing that scientific research was something so different from writing just an English research paper! I am also a Student Success Specialist and have been since Fall 2019. Because of this fact, I have had the pleasure of working with many professors in the biology department. I'd truly be lying if I said this didn't have a lot of influence in changing my major quickly!

I was born here in Phoenix, but I lived most of my life in El Paso, Tx so I consider that more my hometown than Phoenix. I do a bit of painting in my free time and enjoy getting consumed by a good book in the evenings when I need to wind down. I enjoy learning new conspiracies and coffee shops the most! I'm also a newbie Playstation gamer, meaning I completely suck but it is my current definition of fun now that I can't really go anywhere! I also have two male guinea pigs and a live plant aquarium (complete mini science project I had initially failed at. We're good now though) that houses a snail called Gary, and Vincent the betta fish!
My research interests involve bacterial chemical test results being tangled with technology coding in order to create a system where different data of varied strains of bacteria, can be stored and organized by a form of a numerical catalog. Some topics that really get my attention are drug/antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the community, flesh-eating bacteria (remind me of zombies), and the evolution of infectious diseases in our community.

Academically I first want to get my associates here at PC, then go ahead and transfer to ASU and continue pursuing my bachelor's in Biological Sciences. I hope to be able to use this degree to explore more the study of microbes and the relationship it has with our local environment, and most importantly find or create tools that can help scientists to better recognize the evolving behavior of environmental bacteria and the way they interact with viruses.
